Letter Writing Unit

When December comes I get so excited for the upcoming writing unit: letter writing!  We begin by learning about all the parts of the letter, practicing what to include in a letter, writing complete sentences, and asking questions.  For the first week, the students practice and practice writing quality letters.  When the next week comes, the fun really begins!  We put our mailbox in the hall!  The students learn to address their letters, put on a stamp (Christmas sticker), and send off in our mailbox.  We have mail carriers deliver the mail each day around the school.  Students receive mail back through our mailbox which is waiting for them on their desks when they arrive in the morning.  Even the high school students get involved which is very exciting for our young ones!
